Terms of Service
This is a translation of the Korean original. If the two versions differ, the Korean version prevails.
Article 1 (Purpose)
These Terms set out the conditions and procedures for using SayText, https://saytext.app (the “Service”), provided by Min Q Kim (김민규) (the “operator”), and the rights and obligations of the operator and users.
Article 2 (Definitions)
- “Service” means the web service that splits text pasted or uploaded by users into sentences, reads it aloud, and allows users to save and manage their texts.
- “User” means a person who uses the Service under these Terms, including both members and non-members.
- “Member” means a user who has signed up with an email address or a Google account and has an account; “non-member” means a person who uses the Service without logging in.
- “Text” means text entered into the Service or imported from a file by a user, together with its title and the like.
Article 3 (Effect of and changes to these Terms)
- These Terms take effect when posted on the Service. A user who signs up or logs in after seeing the notice on the sign-up or login screen stating “By continuing, you agree to the Terms of Service and acknowledge the Privacy Policy” is deemed to have agreed to these Terms.
- The operator may change these Terms to the extent that doing so does not violate applicable laws. When the Terms are changed, the changes and their effective date will be announced on the Service from 7 days before they take effect; changes unfavorable to users will be announced from 30 days before, and members will also be notified by email.
- Members who do not agree to the changed Terms may withdraw before the effective date. If the notice clearly stated this, and a member continues to use the Service without expressing refusal by the effective date, the member is deemed to have agreed to the changed Terms.
Article 4 (Sign-up)
- Only persons aged 14 or older may sign up. By signing up, a user is deemed to have confirmed that they are 14 or older.
- When signing up with email, the user must confirm that the email address is their own by entering the verification code sent to it. Users may also sign up and log in with a Google account.
- If an email sign-up account and a Google account share the same email address, the two methods are automatically linked into a single account, and in that case the operator sends the member a notification email.
- Users must not sign up using another person’s email address or account, and the operator may refuse or cancel any such sign-up.
Article 5 (Account management)
- Members are responsible for managing their own passwords and accounts and may not transfer or lend them to others.
- If an account has been, or may have been, compromised, please change the password immediately and notify the operator.
- The operator is not responsible for damage caused by a member’s failure to manage their account, unless the operator acted intentionally or negligently.
Article 6 (Content of the Service)
- The Service is free and provides the following features: pasting text and importing files (pdf, txt, rtf, docx, doc, md), selecting sentences to listen to, downloading an MP3 of the entire text, repeat and playlists, and saving texts and syncing them across devices.
- Files are converted into text inside the user’s browser, and the original files are not stored on the server. Depending on the format or condition of a file, its text may not be extracted accurately.
- Non-members can write new texts of up to 1,000 characters, and non-members’ texts are stored only in that browser. File import, repeat and playlists, MP3 downloads, downloading all texts, and server storage are available to members only.
Article 7 (Changes to and suspension of the Service)
- The operator may add, change or remove features of the Service, and will announce significant changes on the Service in advance.
- All or part of the Service may stop without notice due to equipment maintenance or failures, or problems with or policy changes at external services (Cloudflare, Microsoft, Google, etc.).
- If the operator decides to end the Service entirely, the operator will give notice 30 days in advance where possible and give members the opportunity to download their saved texts.
- Because the Service is provided free of charge, no separate compensation is provided to users for changes to or suspension of the Service, except in cases of the operator’s intentional misconduct or gross negligence.
Article 8 (About the voices)
- The Service’s voices use the speech server behind Microsoft Edge’s “Read Aloud” feature. Since this is not an official or paid Microsoft API, it may become unavailable or change in quality without notice.
- When a sentence is played, the user’s browser sends that sentence directly to Microsoft. For details, please see the Privacy Policy.
- Because the generated audio and MP3 files use Microsoft’s voices, they may be used for personal, non-commercial purposes only. They may not be used for sale, broadcasting, distribution, creating commercial content, or similar purposes.
- Pronunciation, reading order and sentence splitting may not always be accurate.
Article 9 (Rights to texts)
- Rights to texts entered or uploaded by users belong to the users or the original rights holders. The operator holds no rights to the texts.
- The operator handles texts only to the extent necessary to provide the Service, such as storing them, displaying them and converting them into speech.
- Users must have the legitimate right to use their texts and files and must use the Service for personal listening. Users are responsible for any infringement of others’ copyrights or other rights.
- If there is a legitimate report of rights infringement or unlawful content, the operator may block the storage of, or delete, the text concerned.
- Rights to the design, logo and software of the Service belong to the operator (or to the rights holders of the relevant open-source components).
Article 10 (Users’ obligations and prohibited conduct)
Users must not engage in the following conduct.
- Misappropriating another person’s information or account
- Using the Service automatically and in bulk through programs, scripts or the like, or connecting the voice feature to other services
- Attacking the Service or its servers, circumventing security measures, or interfering with normal operation
- Storing or processing unlawful content (infringement of others’ rights, illegally filmed material or obscene material, crime-related content, etc.)
- Using the Service for commercial purposes without the operator’s permission
- Any other conduct that violates applicable laws or these Terms
Article 11 (Withdrawal and restrictions on use)
- Members may withdraw at any time via “Delete account” in the account menu. Upon withdrawal, member information and saved texts are deleted immediately and cannot be restored, so please download any texts you need beforehand via “Download my texts”.
- If a user violates Article 10, the operator may restrict use by means such as a warning, temporary suspension or account deletion. In that case, the operator will, where possible, notify the member of the reason by email in advance and give the member an opportunity to respond. However, where urgent blocking is needed to protect the Service, the operator may restrict use first and notify afterwards.
- Users who object to a restriction may contact the operator, and if the objection is justified, the restriction will be lifted promptly.
Article 12 (Limitation of liability)
- The Service is provided free of charge and “as is”, and the operator does not guarantee that the Service will operate without interruption or be fit for any particular purpose.
- The operator is not liable for damage caused by natural disasters, outages of external services (such as Microsoft’s speech server), problems with users’ devices or browsers, or users’ own fault.
- Because non-members’ texts are stored only in the user’s browser, the operator cannot restore texts lost due to clearing browser data or similar causes.
- This Article applies only to the extent permitted by applicable laws and does not limit the operator’s liability for damage caused by the operator’s intentional misconduct or gross negligence.
Article 13 (Contact and notices)
Please send inquiries about the Service to [email protected]. When the operator needs to notify members, it will do so via the member’s email or the Service.
Article 14 (Governing law and dispute resolution)
- These Terms and the use of the Service are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea.
- The parties will first endeavor to resolve any dispute relating to the use of the Service through good-faith consultation.
- Any lawsuit not resolved through consultation shall be filed with the court having jurisdiction under the Civil Procedure Act (「민사소송법」).
Addendum
These Terms take effect on 2026-10-16.
