Human-like voices—hear for yourself
Tap to play. Works in any browser.
How it works
- 1Paste your text
Copy the text you want to hear, paste it into the 'New text' box and save. Members can also upload PDF, Word and TXT files directly.
- 2Tap the sentence to start from
Your text is shown sentence by sentence. Tap any sentence and reading starts right there; the sentence being read is highlighted in yellow.
- 3Pick a speed and a voice
Choose any speed from 1× to 2×—the pitch stays natural. Pick from male and female voices in many languages.
What you can do
- Start anywhere
No need to listen from the top again—jump straight to the sentence you tap. SayText remembers where you stopped in each text.
- Natural voices
Microsoft neural voices read English, Korean, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and many more languages.
- Speed control
Eight steps from 1.0× to 2.0×. Changes apply instantly, even mid-sentence.
- File upload
Bring in the text of PDF, Word (DOCX, DOC), RTF, TXT and Markdown files as they are (members).
- Save as MP3
Turn a whole text into one audio file in the voice and speed you chose, and listen on the go (members).
- Continue on any device
With a free account your texts are kept safe, so you can pick up on your phone where you left off on your computer—and share a text as a listening link.

Frequently asked questions
Is it really free?
Yes. Without an account you can listen to new texts of up to 1,000 characters right away. A free account removes the length limit and adds file upload, MP3 saving, section repeat and syncing across devices—all free.
Why do you recommend Microsoft Edge?
SayText uses the natural read-aloud voices built into Edge, so in Edge you can listen free with no length limit. In Chrome or Safari you get a free trial with official voices, and when the trial runs out we show you how to open SayText in Edge. Edge is free on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android.
Where are my texts stored?
If you aren't signed in, your texts stay inside the browser you're using and are never sent to our server. When you sign in, they're kept safely in your account so you can see them on other devices; if you delete your account, everything is erased after 30 days. Our privacy policy has the details.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. Open saytext.app in the Edge app on iPhone or Android and it works just like on a computer. Add it to your home screen to open it like an app.
Can it read other languages?
Yes. Choose a voice that matches the language of your text and it reads like a native speaker. Multilingual voices can read several languages, which makes SayText handy for listening practice and checking pronunciation.
Can I use very long texts?
Members can add long texts in one go. SayText splits the text into sentences and fetches them ahead of time, so there are only short pauses between sentences, and when you stop and come back it carries on from the same place.
