Save text as an MP3 file
Want to listen offline or with your screen off? Save the whole text as an MP3 and play it in your phone's music app or on your headphones.
SayText creates the audio sentence by sentence, trims the long silences between them and joins everything into a single MP3 file. A progress ring shows how far along it is.
MP3 files you save are for personal listening only. They use Microsoft voices, so they cannot be sold, broadcast or used in commercial videos.
How to do it
- Open saytext.app in Microsoft Edge and sign in for free.
- Paste your text and choose a voice and speed. MP3s can be made at 1.0× to 2.0×.
- Tap '⤓ Save MP3', check the speed and voice, then tap 'Create' to turn the whole text into an audio file.
- When it is done, tap 'Download' to save it to your phone or computer.
Sound plays in the Microsoft Edge browser (free on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android). If you open SayText in Chrome or Safari, it shows you how to open it in Edge.
Good to know
- Very long texts take a while. Keep the window open until it finishes.
- Try a few sentences with different voices first, then save the one you like best.
- The file name includes the title and the voice, so it is easy to find later.
