Proofread your writing by ear
When you reread your own writing, your brain quietly fixes the mistakes for you. Hearing it read aloud makes missing words, repeated words and run-on sentences obvious.
SayText highlights the sentence it is reading in yellow, so you can see exactly where something sounded wrong. Tap a sentence to hear it again from there.
After you fix the text, update it with 'Edit' and listen to the changed sentences again.
How to do it
- Open saytext.app in Microsoft Edge and paste your writing into '+ New text'.
- Tap the first sentence or ▶ to start. 1.0× to 1.2× is a good speed for proofreading.
- Pause at anything that sounds off, then tap ‹ or the sentence itself to hear it again.
- Fix it in your original document, then paste it again or update it with 'Edit' to check.
Sound plays in the Microsoft Edge browser (free on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android). If you open SayText in Chrome or Safari, it shows you how to open it in Edge.
Good to know
- Tap ‹ previous / next › several times to skip back or ahead that many sentences.
- If you revise the same piece many times, keep it in your list of texts.
- Up to 1,000 characters work without signing in.
